Design and Optimization of a Nonlinear Fuzzy Controller Using Fuzzy Process Models

A special nonlinear fuzzy controller is presented to control the output signal of an undamped one-degree-of-freedom oscillating system with nonlinear characteristic. Basically, this controller consists of a feedback part and a feed-forward part. Whereas the feedback part is made up by a classical fuzzy controller, the feed-forward part is based on a fuzzy model taking into account the nonlinear characteristic of the process to be controlled. In a second step, fuzzy modeling is used to create a simulation model for the nonlinear process allowing to carry out an optimization procedure for the parameters of the classical fuzzy controller. The resulting fuzzy-model-based nonlinear controller is nally applied to the example process of a propeller-driven pendulum.
